ABOUT

While the ShinBaku Collection is very similar to a zine, it is not intended to be an exclusive gallery. Instead, we aim to is to provide an expansive, curated collection of ShinBaku content that is accessible to everyone.

We will achieve this by accepting a large number of writers and artists, by publishing in PDF format only, and charging a “pay what you will” rate. The profits of this zine will be all split between Translifeline and the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition.

We will be releasing four collections total:

+ SFW (all SFW content, including mature themes if it is not graphically described)
+ NSFW (all typical NSFW content)
+ DARK (all "problematic" content)
+ COMPLETE (all three collections)

All types of content will be accepted, and sorted by the Mod team into the appropriate category. When purchasing this product, you will be able to select one or all of the collections!

MOD TEAM

HEAD MOD - DONUT
Role: Organization, scheduling, and decision making.

Hello! I'm donut, or useless_donut on twitter and AO3. Outside of my extreme passion for all things Shinsou and Bakugou (especially when they KISS), I have a degree in graphic design, two years of professional marketing coordination experience, and around 5 years of industry experience that I will apply to this project. I have participated in around 5 projects in the BNHA fandom, and am currently the social media mod of a not-yet-announced zine. I look forward to assembling a fantastic team of mods with lots of BNHA zine experience!

NECK MOD - CHARI
Role: Supporting the head mod and assisting with organization and management.

Hiya! I'm Chari, also known as grailfish on Twitter, walkingcatfish on Archive, and holygrailcosplay on Instagram. I've participated as an artist in over 15 projects for BNHA and Voltron, including zines such as Seaborne and the Adversity edition of My Comic Academia. I'm super excited to be a part of this collection! I'll be helping donut with organization and management of the project. As a current resident of Japan, I'll also be available to answer any questions about Japanese culture, language, or daily life our contributors might have.

LAYOUT MOD - ALSO DONUT
Role: Creating, compiling, and laying out the PDF files; working with contributors to ensure the final product showcases their work. Is assisted by the Graphics Mod.

I am hoping this collection will be huge, and I am more than ready to take on the challenge. I've been the lead designer of a University newspaper, a freelance book designer, and currently delight in compiling massive proposals in my current role. For whatever reason, laying out a hell of a lot of text and images brings me joy, and I can't WAIT to work with everyone!

Mods have been selected! The following descriptions will be updated soon.

FINANCE MOD - Pan
Role: Tracking donations, managing the online shop, maintaining transparency and documentation.

GRAPHICS MOD - Fanny (on Twitter)
Role: Creation of graphics for social media, branding, and will assist the layout mod during production.

SOCIAL MEDIA MOD - Pyrrha (on Twitter)
Role: Managing the collection's accounts, creating and posting social media content, and promoting the collection.

WRITER MODS - Frank (on Twitter) and Khem (on Twitter)
Role: Supporting the writers, reviewing check-ins, providing feedback, and assisting with the application process. Will be assisted by the Beta Mod.

ARTIST MOD* - Shiru (on Twitter)
Role: Supporting the artists, reviewing check-ins, providing feedback, and assisting with the application process. Managing merch artists. Will be assisted by the Beta Mod.

BETA MOD - Sam (on Twitter)
Role: Managing beta readers, assisting the writer and artist mod during the creation process.

MOD INTERNS - Zee (on Twitter) and Sara (on Twitter)
Role: Assisting the team as needed, answering questions, and any other tasks that arise. This role is intended for someone looking to gain experience in moderating for fandom projects.

FAQ

ABOUT MIND BLOWN

What exactly is Mind Blown? Is it a zine? A bang? Some other event?
Not exactly! Mind Blown is intended as a fan collection. Think all of the standard protocol for a modern zine (contributor applications, creation period and sales period) but without the strict limits on size and number of contributors. Since this will be released in a digital only format, we're hoping to make it a very big project!

What is this collection about?
This collection is to celebrate all things ShinBaku! Our goal is to provide an expansive, curated collection of ShinBaku content that is accessible to the masses at a “pay what you will” rate with proceeds going to an LGBTQ+ charity. You can see more information on our About page.

How does “pay what you will” work?
When purchasing the collections, you will be able to type in the amount of money you'd like to pay, whether it's $0 or $100!

What charity will proceeds be going to?
All proceeds from the collection will be split between Translifeline and the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition.

What format will the collection be in?
This project is entirely digital. The collections themselves will be in the form of downloadable PDFs, and the merch that we offer alongside will also be digital (i.e. screen backgrounds, icons, etc.)

What content can we expect to see in each collection?
The project is divided into three categories: SFW, NSFW, and Dark. The SFW collection will contain all “safe for work,” or non-explicit content, though it may contain mature themes. The NSFW collection will contain typical NSFW content, such as aged-up explicit content, quirkplay, and all types of kinks. The DARK collection will contain “problematic” content such as graphic violence, horror, and non-consensual situations. The COMPLETE collection will be a compilation of all three.

Can I purchase the collection if I am under 18?
No. Even though we will offer a SFW collection, Mind Blown is a strictly 18+ project. All consumers must be 18 years or older to purchase the collection. This is to help ensure the comfort and safety of everyone involved in the project.

ABOUT APPS

Who can apply?
This project, including the SFW collection, is entirely 18+. Anyone under the age of 18 will not be eligible to apply. This is in the interest of ensuring all contributors’ comfort and safety. Aside from that, there are no hard restrictions to who can apply.

Is there a limit to how many contributors will be accepted?
No. Unlike typical fandom zines, there is no upper limit for the number of contributors we will accept. We want this collection to be diverse, expansive, and high-quality. Our application process is designed to ensure that all participants will be able to contribute polished final pieces within a given time frame.

Can I apply to more than one collection?
Yes! Applicants can apply to be in as many or as few collections as they would like.

I’ve never participated in a zine or other fandom project/event before. Can I still apply?
Yes! While we appreciate seeing prior experience in other zines/projects/events, it is not required to apply. As long as you are confident in your ability to create quality work within the time frame, we highly encourage you to apply!

Is it possible to apply as both an artist and a writer for the collection?
Yes, it is possible to apply as both. However, please be mindful of the workload and aware of your own limits!

I'm uncomfortable with uploading my work to an online form. Is it okay for me to add a watermark?
Of course! Please do whatever makes you comfortable when submitting your portfolio. Just be sure that the watermark doesn't obscure anything that would inhibit our ability to judge your work.

ABOUT CONTRIBUTORS

Is there a limit for how many pieces I can create?
Yes. Each contributor can contribute 1-3 pieces in total. For writers, there is a 15,000 word limit across all works. For example, a writer submitting three total works can submit one 2,000 word piece, one 3,000 word piece, and one 10,000 word piece for a total of 15,000 words. There is no restriction on how many pieces you may have in a given collection.

What type of content can I create for the collection?
As long as it fits within the general guidelines of the collection (SFW, NSFW, and Dark), there is no limit to the type of content you create. This means comics, spreads, poetry, whatever you can think of will be welcome in the collection.
The only content we will not allow is racist, homophobic, transphobic, or sexist content—not that your work can't explore these themes, but the work itself can't be bigoted.

What is the time frame for the creation period?
You can see a complete schedule for the project under the Schedule tab. The creation period is expected to be about 2-3 months from May through August. During this time there will be intermittent check-ins to track everyone’s progress. More details about check-in schedules will be available to contributors once the creation period starts.

What will be the primary mode of communication between mods and contributors?
We will use discord as our primary platform of communication. All contributors will be required to have a discord account in order to participate in the project.
